Intro & Summary
Democracy is being damaged across the world, and the damage is accelerating. Because of its power and influence, the United States is the most critical place to stop this decline — and the current status quo is also not serving America’s long-term interests.
We support an immediate, temporary, bipartisan leadership reset in the United States — a bridge through the 2028 presidential election cycle — to halt further damage, restore democratic norms, begin national healing, and enable a normal, competitive, and credible election.
Across many countries, we see the same pattern repeating: democratic norms are weakened or ignored; institutions are treated as obstacles rather than safeguards; personal loyalty is elevated above constitutional duty; opponents are dehumanized; accountability is delayed until it becomes ineffective.
The United States holds a unique position in the global system. Its actions shape precedent, norms, alliances, and what other leaders believe is acceptable. When democratic norms weaken in the United States, the consequences do not stay contained.
The solution to democratic damage is not escalation and not permanent restructuring. The solution is a temporary reset, grounded in the Constitution and explicitly limited to the period leading through the 2028 presidential election cycle.
The concern is not about left versus right. It is about trajectory — and about restoring conditions under which democratic competition is once again legitimate and trusted.
We support constitutional accountability where warranted, removal of the current President and Vice President, and a strictly time-limited bipartisan arrangement as a bridge to a credible 2028 election. Neither leader should be eligible to run in 2028.
A temporary bipartisan reset strengthens US institutions rather than exhausting them, and helps restore trust that makes governance more effective.
At moments of strain, great democracies are judged not by denial, but by correction — peacefully, through lawful process and restraint.
